This annual event is growing in popularity, with schools around the UK taking part and hoards of revellers taking to the streets for a Christmas jumper day (night) out. 

Who Started Christmas Jumper Day?

Christmas Jumper Day was started by UK-based Charity ‘Save The Children’.  The first ever Christmas Jumper Day was held on Friday, 14th December 2012 and has grown in strength ever since. 

How Does Christmas Jumper Day Work?

The idea is simple, to get the nation all united together by wearing Christmas Jumpers on a single day, with a suggested donation of ยฃ2 which goes to the ‘Save The Children’ charity. 

Participants can knit, buy, borrow or even upcycle an old jumper to make a festive jumper for the event. 

Is there an Official Christmas Jumper Day?

Yes, Christmas Jumper Day is celebrated throughout the UK in the first or second week of December each year. 

Who can Participate in Christmas Jumper Day?

Anyone and Everyone can take part in Christmas Jumper Day, all you need is a festive jumper.  You can join in on your own, with work colleagues in the office, or with friends and family as part of a night out.   Many Schools, Nursery and Colleges also take part.

This year’s Christmas Jumper Day will take place on Thursday 5th or Thursday 12th December 2024

Is Christmas Jumper Day on the Same Date Every Year?

No, although the date is similar, it isn’t the same. Since Christmas Jumper was launched in 2021 the day has always been observed on the first or second Thursday or Friday in December, with 2022 and 2023 being moved to Thursday for an unknown reason. 

 

How Do you Donate to Christmas Jumper Day?

If your Christmas Jumper day is organised by your boss, a colleague, a school or a friend you can give them cash or pay directly to the JustGiving page they will have been provided on signing up.

The UK government have even promised to match every ยฃ2 donation given to Christmas Jumper Day 2022 providing the donations are between December 1st and March 1st – Which is fantastic.
