An Autism Christmas Poem
As a Mother of an Autistic Child, this Poem brings me so much comfort during Christmas. I always share it to make others aware of how Christmas looks and feels completely different through the eyes of an Autistic child.
The Poem is an adaptation of one of my favourite Christmas Poems ‘A Visit to St Nicolas’ Also known as ‘Twas the night before Christmas’.
The Night Before Christmas Autism Poem
Twas the Season of Christmas
And all through the house
The noises were louder
Yes, even the mouse.
We need our routine, it can not deflect,
Christmas brings changes, none that we expect.
We try to relax, take our usual bath,
But the chaos of Christmas takes a different path.
Visits overwhelm us, we donโt mean to be rude,
We donโt want Christmas Dinner, just our usual food.
Weโre not interested in gifts like most children, itโs true,
But know that weโre thankful for everything you do.
You come to our house and bring us new toys,
but we wonโt even look because we don’t like the noise.
So please be aware, and take this as your sign.
To remember your Christmas, is different to mine.
I hope you enjoyed this little twist on a classic poem, as it resonates with so many families at Christmas time.
