As a working mum of five, I wrote this poem to myself and all the other parents out there as a reminder that everyone has different struggles in their home all year round, but Christmas can really elevate things.
From money worries and loss of loved ones to relationship breakups and mental health, we’re ALL going through something!
Sometimes we watch others picture perfect Christmas posts and think our Christmas is not as good or as elaborate!
But we need to remember that not everyone shows their struggles on the outside…
The Christmas Struggle
Christmas isnโt always Merry, and thatโs Okay,
Added stress, extra mess and how will I pay?
Society demands that Iโm merry and bright,
But the magicโs in money and money is tight!
The kids make their lists, I try not to frown,
My wages wonโt stretch, I canโt let them down.
Itโs not just the kids; there are plenty of others,
The teachers, the colleagues, the sisters and brothers.
Matching PJs to buy and the Gifts that went viral,
Then thereโs the food; the costs start to spiral.
Missing loved ones from whom weโre apart,
Their absence at Christmas leaves a void in my heart.
When anxiety hits, I paint on a smile,
Canโt let it be known, itโs just not my style.
But, as much as I stress, and worry and struggle,
Thereโs no better feeling than a warm Christmas snuggle.
Just remember this Christmas, as you worry and fret,
Love doesnโt require you to get into debt.
So do what you can, be happy and true,
And always remember…Itโs your Christmas too.
Thank for reading, I hope you took as much comfort and pleasure from these words as I do.
Merry Christmas x
